Mesa Verde National Park is located in the high plateau country of southwestern Colorado. The park was established in 1906 to preserve the spectacular archeological remnants of the thousand-year-old culture of the Ancestral Pueblo people. Mesa Verde, Spanish for green table, offers a spectacular look into the lives of the Ancestral Pueblo people who made it their home for over 700 years, from A.D. 600 to A.D. 1300. Today, the park protects over 4,000 known archeological sites, including 600 cliff dwellings. These sites are some of the most notable and best preserved in the United States.

Colorado Trails RanchDurango, Colorado Phone: +1 800-323-3833 We are located a very scenic hour's drive from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park. It takes another 20 minutes to the first stop and scenic view. This park is the only park dedicated to the works of mankind as opposed to nature. It is the finest example of Ancient Puebloan living. We offer a guided trip to the park. This is an all day trip and we cover as much of the park as possible (although it is not possible to see everything in one day). Our guide's husband is a retired ranger from Mesa Verde so she has a lot of information to pass along. The trip carries a small fee and includes van driver, picnic lunch and guide. We are able to get close to and walk through some of the ruins. |
