R Lazy S Ranch

Operating since 1947, the R Lazy S Ranch is located in one of the West's most scenic area - Jackson Hole. Just 20 minutes from the town of Jackson, the ranch is bordered by Grand Teton National Park to the North, and the beautiful Snake River to the East. Close by are Teton trails, alpine lakes, sparkling streams and lush green meadows. The towering Teton Mountains are in full view and only minutes away from the Ranch.

Each of the 14 individual cabins on the 325 acre Ranch enjoy magnificent views. Various floor plans and sizes are offered to allow large or small families. All cabins have one or two private bathrooms, electric heat, and either a sitting room with a stone fireplace or a wood burning stove. The main lodge, with it's massive stone fireplace and cozy living room is a favorite gathering place, especially for cocktails before dinner and night activities. Our unusually large crew of 35 is able to offer distinctive personal attention.

A healthy measure of the R Lazy S Western hospitality is evident at meal time. Quality, balanced meals are served at sit down dinners in the lodge, buffets and cookouts. It is gourmet home cooking, Western style; all you can eat.

Whether you are an accomplished rider or have never been in the saddle, riding at the R Lazy S will always be a pleasurable experience. Satisfaction of riding comes from good horses, beautiful scenery and confidence in one's horse, so the Ranch chooses it mounts and trails with care and pays particular attention to teaching the essentials of good horsemanship and trail riding.

Our friendly and experienced wranglers strive to build confidence in new riders by thorough and patient instruction. From our 80 horses, we select one that best fits your ability and experience and you keep that horse and tack for the length of your stay.

Morning and afternoon riders are divided into small groups according to ability and each is led by an experienced wrangler. We have approximately 17 different all-day rides. Guests may leave on horseback directly from the Ranch for rides to nearby canyons and meadows as well as being transported by truck and trailer for regularly scheduled rides to many other areas in the valley.

The daily program is full and varied, but completely optional. Our program ranges from active days to restful days on the Ranch - suitable for families, couples, and individuals.

The R Lazy S has direct access to several miles of private frontage on the Snake River, one of the West's top trout fishing streams. Many other streams and mountain lakes are also nearby. Highly qualified, licensed fishing guides are available for fishing trips and the Ranch's stocked fishing pond is available to practice your skills.

Scenic float trips on the Snake River area available through professional outfitters for either trips on quiet waters beneath the towering Tetons or whitewater stretches in the Snake River Canyon. Mid week, kids and adults are taken to beautiful Jackson Lake to partake in a variety of water sports such as waterskiing and tubing. Scenic boat rides are also always a hit. The Ranch swimming hole and meandering creek afford swimming and inner tubing opportunities for those hot afternoons.

Enjoy your entire stay right at the Ranch, or take advantage of many activities and sights available nearby for example the Jackson Hole Rodeo,  fine Western art galleries and several melodrama theaters. There are several night spots offering excellent Western music for listening and dancing. Play a round of golf on several beautiful 18-hole golf courses; or take mountain climbing instruction. Ride bicycles along many miles of paths located nearby the ranch as well as in the park. Enjoy a spectacular tram ride to the top of the Tetons at the neighboring Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. Only an hour and a half away, a day's trip to Yellowstone Park is always an amazing experience.

We have a full program of activities for the younger guests (minimum age 7). Our special counselor and wranglers for children allow parents more freedom to enjoy some of their own activities. Interest for both children and teenagers centers around the horses. Their riding program includes instruction, gymkhanas (games on horseback), half-day trail rides and all-day rides to nearby mountain lakes. Family rides include a weekly breakfast ride that includes a hearty meal beside the beautiful fish pond, or to Phelps Lake for a lunch and then a jump off the "rock" into the refreshing lake.

Our recreation room is equipped to provide indoor activities and non-stop fun.  Daily after-dinner events for everyone include softball games, capture the flag, accompanied rides to the rodeo, smores by a campfire and talent night.

While visiting Jackson Hole, the R Lazy S Ranch is your home. We strive to do all we can to make your stay with us one of your most memorable vacations.
