Latigo Ranch

What makes Latigo Ranch stand out?

STAFF
Although the view from the Latigo porch will rattle your spurs, the real difference lies in the people.  Every week our guests ask where we get such clean-cut, caring and polite staff.  Parents say they feel relaxed that their children are in such good care.  The kids, of course, are our best advertising, telling parents they have to return next year.  Often the kids, and even their parents, keep in contact with Latigo staff for years after.

OWNERS
The four of us have owned Latigo for 24 years and have raised our families here.  Since the beginning our goal has been to make you feel like family comin' home.  We constantly try to refine and improve every aspect of the ranch to make it a more perfect experience.

OPTIONS & FLEXIBILITY
We strive to give you options that will make your experience fun for everyone in the family.

If you want to ride horses with your kids, DO IT!  If you want to eat meals with them, DO IT!  If you want to play together - whether dancing, archery, hiking, shooting or fishing - DO IT!

Or if you want to be apart for awhile - DO IT!

To see what "options" really means check out our section on meals.

HORSES
Lots of choices riding horses too.  Since we get riders of all levels - some who own their own horses, some  who have won national and international championships, and others who have never even touched a horse before - we cater the riding to those interests and skills.

Options include:
    * Walk-trot-lope rides
    * Walk-trot rides
    * Walk-only rides
    * Walk, work on trot rides
    * Walk-trot, work on lope rides
    * Family rides
    * Adult rides
    * Kids rides
    * Sunset rides
    * Breakfast rides
    * All-day rides
    * Arena sessions
    * Packtrip rides

We emphasize instruction, both on the trail and in the arena, hoping to help you improve your riding skills during the week.  Kids love playing games on horseback that are intended to improve their control and balance.

Most rides include no more than 6 riders with a wrangler, unless a large family group wants to ride together.

The old stereotype of "nose-to-tail" rides doesn't apply here.  We expect riders to learn independent control while being safe.

And who doesn't enjoy rounding up the cattle, sorting/cutting, or team penning?  All ages from 3 to 70+ think this is the best event of the week.

SETTING
Latigo Ranch is in the middle of Colorado's mountain cattle country.  Our neighbors are ranchers and the nearest town feels like the American West.

Secluded and small (35 guests), Latigo is the perfect size to create that sense of "family comin' home".

We are surrounded by vast, heavy pine and spruce forest, glorious aspen groves, sage hillsides, and inviting alpine meadows laced with crystalline streams and beaver ponds.  Terrain varies from near-level meadows to steep escarpments, yielding spectacular vistas for riders and hikers.

Our 9000' elevation means delightfully cool summer weather, refreshing for body and soul.

Ranch Dining

The Ranch kitchen delivers scrumptious choices.

Since many folks are health conscious, we include both light and hearty choices at all meals. Evening meals offer two entrees, one red meat and one white.  Fresh salads and fruit, home-made breads and desserts, and a huge breakfast selection satisfy any palate.

We gladly cater to special diets with advance notice. And knowing that kids' tastes are often different, we work to see that they are happy as well.

Check our website for sample meals.

Ranch Activities

As the kids say, "horseback riding rules".  From our herd of 80 horses we will find you an appropriate match.

Working with cattle, packtrips, and riding are detailed above and on our website.

Ever want to learn to rope, crack a bullwhip or stick a tomahawk? How about archery golf?  Try your hand shooting a rifle or learning to cast a fly to wary trout? Join nature walks, ecology lectures, country dancing, river rafting, swimming or a soak in the hot tub.

"I'm bored."  We never hear that!

Ranch Lodging

Latigo has three-bedroom and one-bedroom modern log structures, each with a sitting room. They are fully-carpeted, with queen beds, private porches and entries, electric heat and a cozy fireplace or wood burning stove.

Free soft drinks and daily homemade caramel corn in the cabins complete the family-friendly setting.  We put fresh fruit, granola bars and cookies out for you at the lodge, along with iced tea, lemonade and ice water.

Need anything else?  Just ask.
