Focus Ranch is a traditional working cattle ranch that invites guests to share in the day-to-day operation of the ranch. From mid-May into September, we run 1300-1400 head of yearling cattle and another 100 head of cows and calves. Running cattle is the basis of our agricultural operation and holistic grazing has been practiced for over 20 years. This management approach has yielded much success because it entails riding six days a week with the guests. The cattle are moved through four pastures on the ranch and seven pastures in Medicine Bow National Forest, several times each for a total of about 25 moves a season. We do not hire professional cowboys but do have professional wranglers as well as the owners who ride with the guests to move the cattle. All ages are welcomed and the rides are adjusted to meet the skill levels of the guests.
Another equally important feature of Focus Ranch is the Little Snake River that flows through the ranch and offers our guests about 4 miles of fly fishing, catch and release. The fishing is limited to a few each week to preserve the integrity of the fishing holes and guides are available with advance notice. Pro fishermen have rated the fishing at Focus Ranch as amongst the best in the world for sport, remoteness and scenery.
Special weeks occur each season and vary from year to year with workshops or clinics such as photography, fly fishing, birding, yoga, painting etc.
The Focus Ranch meals are home-cooked, whole-some and meant to satisfy the hungry appetite. Our breads and pastries are freshly baked. The menu has variety to meet a variety of tastes. We prepare well-balanced meals, much like you would see at a family style restaurant and serve these meals buffet style. Fresh fruits and vegetables add to the quality. We can provide for most dietary needs with advance notice. Our smaller guest capacity allows us to tailor the weekly meal plan to the guests.
Focus Ranch is truly a ranch, not a resort. Yet there are activities to enjoy other than riding and fishing:
The Ranch House, rebuilt in 2002, is of log construction. The living room and dining area are downstairs. Upstairs are 3 spacious guest rooms offering views of the Little Snake River and mountains. All rooms have hardwood floors, pine walls and tiled bathrooms. The beds are queen or twin. The doors are always open with beverages and fresh fruit available. The front deck is a popular place to relax, visit and watch the bald eagles fly by.
