Bar Lazy J Guest Ranch

Bar Lazy J is nestled in a peaceful valley along the banks of the Colorado River.  Opened in 1912, Bar Lazy J is the oldest continuously operating guest ranch in Colorado.  With a guest capacity of 42 we offer our guests a friendly, informal atmosphere and a true "western experience". While the original log lodge and cabins have been modernized, everthing possible has been done to retain the look and atmosphere of the "OLD WEST". You will enjoy stepping into the past. Recreation and Relaxation is what we offer at the ranch.  The pace is slower.....or not at all. The choice is always YOURS. The Sunday to Sunday all inclusive American Plan weekly program is geared to all level of guests - families, couples, singles, seniors. The ranch can accommodate 42 guests in private log cabins overlooking the Colorado River. At 7500 feet elevation, the crisp, clean mountain air will stimulate your appetite for the home-style food and fresh baked goods served in our historic log lodge. Scenic, Moderate and Adventure horseback rides are offered twice daily through the Arapaho National Forests sage covered hills and majestic mountains. We maintain our own herd of 90 horses which accommodate all levels of riding ability. Our wranglers carefully consider your riding experience and ability before pairing you with your horse during your stay at the ranch. Our riding program is progressive, in which we provide personalized riding instruction throughout the week. We have an outstanding Children's Program where your kids will ride horses with other children in their own age group, learn horsemanship skills, participate in arts and crafts activities, swim in our heated pool and hike.  Adults are always welcome to join their children! Aside from horseback riding, guests can choose from a variety of activities.  We offer a fly fishing clinic early in the week, jeep rides, mountain biking, sightseing van trips, guided hiking, swimming pool/hot tub, rodeo, cattle drives and evening activities. Our private 3/4 mile stretch of the Colorado River (designated Gold Medal Fishing) offers some of the best Rainbow and German Brown trout fishing in the state. Nearby are tennis courts, golf courses and white water rafting......or just plain relaxing with a book on your cabin porch watching the Colorado River rush by.

Ranch Dining

At 7500 feet elevation the crisp mountain air will stimulate your appetite for the homestyle food and fresh baked goods we serve. Breakfasts are custom ordered off our menu and dinners are served plated in our historic log lodge. Lunches are buffet style on our screened dining porch overlooking the Colorado River. Since our own family is split between meat and non-meat eaters, we appreciate guests' variance in appetities and dietary needs. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences.

Ranch Activities

All of our activities on the ranch are included with your cost of stay. While horseback riding and Gold Medal Fishing are featured activities, we offer jeep rides, rodeos, mountain biking, guided hiking, fishing the stocked trout pond, sightseeing van trips and evening activities. Rafting, tennis and several golf courses are available nearby. You can also choose to lounge around the heated swimming pool/hot tub, grab a book from the library, or sit and relax in the main lodge.

Ranch Lodging

While the original log cabins have been modernized, the look and feel of the "Old West" has been retained. We can accommodate our guests in 12 cozy comfortable log cabins plus the Ranch House for larger families. Our cabins, which are cleaned daily, can sleep from two to eight guests and all have screened porches with a view of the beautiful Colorado River. Each cabin has a king or queen bed and offers a variety of modern amenities. There is also a free laundry facility.
